The OH-GENDER project investigates alcohol consumption patterns among adolescents, particularly focusing on the rising rates among girls. It aims to develop a quantitative assessment tool to understand the gender-specific factors influencing drinking behaviors, thereby informing effective prevention strategies.
In Europe, 53.5% of adolescents consume alcohol in excess, but what has attracted attention is the increase in consumption among girls.
These used to drink less than boys, but now their consumption is equal and on some contexts larger than boys.
How this happens in Europe, where it can be considered a trendsetter, should be a global concern.
Thus, understanding the reasons for this behavior change is essential to develop prevention program strategies that are effective in young people.
