This project aims to improve cancer immunotherapy by targeting the fibrotic stroma in solid tumors, particularly pancreatic cancer. By disrupting the pro-fibrotic loop using engineered biomimetics, the project seeks to enhance immune cell accessibility and effectiveness against tumors.
Immunotherapy can prolong lives of cancer patient subgroups, but fails in solid tumors with dense fibrotic stroma, such as pancreatic cancer.
Fibrotic stroma prevents the recruitment and activation of immune effector cells, and, thereby dampens the efficacy of immunotherapy.
