This research aims to understand how oxidative DNA damage contributes to aging and diseases like cancer. By studying the repair mechanisms in living cells, it seeks to uncover the role of specific proteins in repairing oxidative DNA lesions, potentially informing future medical strategies.
Oxidation of DNA bases by reactive oxygen species (ROS) leads to mutations that have been linked with cancer and neurodegenerations.
The occurrence of these major diseases increases upon organism aging.
The life expectancy in western society and particularly EU has considerably increased in the XXth century.
