This project focuses on developing a new anti-angiogenic therapy by targeting PFKFB3, a key regulator of glucose metabolism in endothelial cells. The aim is to create small molecule compounds that inhibit pathological blood vessel growth, addressing significant medical needs in conditions like cancer and inflammation.
Angiogenesis, the growth of new blood vessels, contributes to major pathologies such as blinding ocular disease, inflammation and cancer.
Blocking angiogenesis has therefore become a major field of research and an attractive therapeutic strategy.
Current anti-angiogenic therapies focus on blockade of pro-angiogenic factors, such as VEGF.
