This project investigates the neural mechanisms of person recognition, focusing on how identity information is processed across different sensory modalities. It aims to identify brain regions involved in person identity and understand how these processes develop in individuals with recognition deficits.
Person recognition is critical for appropriate social interactions, however we currently know very little about its neural basis.
One possibility is that person knowledge is distributed in a network of modality-specific neural systems.
Alternatively, Bruce & Young (1986) suggested a cognitive hierarchical model in which information from modality-specific recognition units (MRUs) is relayed to person identity nodes (PINs) containing or giving access to unified, amodal person representations.
