This project studies the genetic basis of temperature adaptation in Antarctic fish, particularly notothenioids. By comparing gene expression in species adapted to extreme cold versus those in milder environments, the research aims to identify the transcriptomic changes that facilitate evolutionary adaptation.
It is generally agreed that much of variation in gene expression in response to a particular environmental condition has a heritable genetic basis and ultimately, combined with extensive expression variability, it provides the substrate for evolution.
