The POOLSAFE project addresses the health risks associated with high cyanuric acid levels in swimming pools. It aims to develop a monitoring system and a photocatalytic method to effectively degrade excess cyanuric acid, ensuring safer pool water and reducing environmental impact.
Microorganisms in swimming pool water can pose a serious health threat and pool disinfection is therefore compulsory by law in all developed countries.
The most common disinfectant is chlorine, which is always found in its active form, hypochlorous acid (HOCl), in pool water.
