This project aims to enhance our understanding of how groups of neurons in the visual cortex process and represent visual information. By developing advanced statistical methods, it will analyze complex data from multiple neurons to uncover the dynamics of neural population coding.
One of the central goals of systems neuroscience is to understand how neurons in the visual system represent and analyze the environment.
In order to understand the capabilities of the visual system, we have to understand how populations of neurons communicate and collectively process the visual input.
Yet, while there is a wealth of knowledge about the response properties of single cells, we still know very little about coding and computations at the level of neural populations.
