This research project analyzes how Christian authors from the Early and High Middle Ages perceived other religions, including Judaism and Islam. It aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of medieval views on religious diversity and the concept of 'the other'.
The aim of the research project is to provide an extensive analysis of the perception of other religions and their members by Christian authors of the Early and High Middle Ages from the fifth to the twelfth centuries.
For the first time ever, the medieval perception of heathens, Jews, Muslims, heretics and Orthodox Christians, as they are seen by Occidental Catholics, is explored in a comparative and comprehensive manner.
