This project explores the genetic adaptation of humans to malaria, particularly focusing on the sickle cell trait among African populations. It aims to determine if this trait was selected before the advent of agriculture, reshaping our understanding of human evolution in relation to malaria.
Tertian malignant malaria (or malaria for short) currently kills more than 400k people per year in sub-Saharan Africa.
