The PREVAIL project aims to reduce the risk of homemade explosives by developing inhibitors for key precursor chemicals and creating markers for detecting ammonium nitrate-based devices. The initiative focuses on ensuring safety without hindering legitimate uses of these substances.
Homemade explosives (HMEs) are easy to make from readily available materials used for legitimate purposes in everyday life.
This availability attracts terrorists to manufacture and use homemade explosives since military and commercial explosives are harder to come by.
