This project investigates the role of the Irish diaspora in agrarian protests in Ireland from 1879 to 1903. It aims to analyze how Irish emigrants engaged with these movements, creating a social profile that connects political mobilization, class, and gender across national boundaries.
At the core of this research project lies an investigation of social and political protest in the complex transnational space across Ireland and the Irish diaspora.
Irish people who emigrated are frequently considered by historians as a separate field of inquiry, set apart from Irish history. I propose to comparatively analyze how Irish people at home, in Britain and the United States engaged with widespread agrarian protest in Ireland during the period 1879-1903.
