PROTOOL develops automated sensor technologies to measure phytoplankton productivity in European seas. It includes a modular device that can assess photosynthesis rates and key water quality parameters, facilitating high-resolution mapping of primary production and enhancing understanding of marine ecosystems.
PROTOOL stands for PROductivity TOOLs:

The project will develop and adapt sensor technologies to measure primary production of phytoplankton with automated optical techniques, so that they can be placed on ships of opportunity (SOOP, ferries, container ships).
