This research project develops qualitative indicators to assess poverty alleviation in tourism, particularly in slum-tourism contexts. By focusing on the multi-dimensional nature of poverty, it aims to enhance evaluation methods and provide a clearer understanding of tourism's impact on impoverished communities.
This research project addresses the knowledge gap that exists in the assessment of qualitative indicators of poverty alleviation in tourism.Currently measurement of poverty and its alleviation is based chiefly on quantitative measures, arguably because qualitative indicators are difficult to operationalise in evaluation efforts.
