READCHINA explores the reading practices in the People's Republic of China, focusing on how ordinary readers interact with literature and its impact on society. The project combines literary analysis with historical and ethnographic methods to understand the cultural policies and social conditions influencing reading.
READCHINA is the first broad investigation into the politics and practices of reading in the People’s Republic of China (PRC), their interpretation and their impact on social and intellectual change.
