REANIMA focuses on developing new therapies for heart regeneration to combat heart failure. By studying regenerative mechanisms in animals that can naturally regenerate their hearts, the project aims to translate these findings into effective treatments for humans.
Heart failure is a major epidemic world-wide, resulting in a large burden for society in deaths, morbidity and economic sustainability.
The inability of the human heart to regenerate the myocardium lost due to acute myocardial infarction underlies a large part of chronic heart failure cases.
To tackle this problem, REANIMA aims to deliver new therapies for heart regeneration, thereby reverting the conditions that lead to heart failure.
