The RED-OPEN project focuses on understanding the fading of colors in historical artworks, particularly those using organic red pigments. It aims to develop analytical methods to identify these pigments and their degradation products, aiding in the preservation of art.
An important issue encountered in the historical artworks is the fading of the original colors because of their strong light sensitivity, infamously leading to the discoloration of masterworks even within an artist’s lifetime.
