This project aims to reduce friction drag on various vehicles and structures immersed in fluids by developing passive flow control techniques. It combines numerical simulations, poroelasticity theory, and biological insights to create specialized surface coatings that enhance performance and efficiency.
A great challenge in both fundamental and applied fluid mechanics research is to reduce friction drag on bodies immersed in a fluid.
Even small amounts of drag reduction on airplanes, ships, cars, wind- and water-power plants could save several billions Euros annually and help preserve earth’s resources.
