This project explores the factors influencing recidivism among homicide offenders in the United States and the Netherlands. It aims to develop a model for understanding reoffending patterns and identify prevention strategies based on offenders' backgrounds and life events.
One of the most intriguing questions in life course criminology is why some offenders reoffend after imprisonment, and others do not.
This specifically accounts for homicide offenders.
In spite of the societal impact, it remains unknown how homicide offenders fare before the offense, after imprisonment and upon return to the community, and how future (violent and nonviolent) crime among this group might be prevented.
