This project investigates how young children develop the ability to think abstractly about the world. It examines the brain networks involved in this cognitive leap, aiming to clarify the neural processes that enable children to understand different beliefs and possibilities.
Thinking about the world–what is and what might be–is fundamental to human life.
The foundation for this world-understanding is laid in the preschool years of childhood.
Around the age of 4, children begin to reason not only about the real world but also about what is possible or what people believe about the world.
