This project explores collective behavior in biological systems through a novel theoretical approach based on renormalization group methods. It aims to classify collective phenomena into new universality classes by studying correlations and scaling laws in various biological contexts.
Biological systems displaying collective behaviour are characterized by strong spatio-temporal correlations, which partly transcend the multiform diversity of their microscopic details, much as it happens in statistical physics systems close to a critical point.
