RISK explores the representation of Republican ideals in late 16th to early 18th-century Europe, focusing on independent city-states. It analyzes civic rituals and artistic expressions to understand how these republics displayed power and values in contrast to absolute monarchy.
RISK investigates Republican pageantry and encomiastic production from late 16th- to early 18th-century Europe, with regard to the Italian city-states that maintained their independence throughout this timeframe (Venice, Genoa, Lucca), the Republic of Ragusa (today in southernmost Croatia) and the Dutch Republic.
