This project investigates the role of noncoding RNAs derived from repetitive elements in maintaining genome stability. It aims to understand how these RNAs influence heterochromatin formation and their potential link to cancer through structural characterization.
A significant fraction of mammalian genomes is composed of repetitive elements, such as pericentric major satellite repeats.
Repetitive elements present a critical challenge to genome stability because these regions are prone to recombination.
