This project explores the therapeutic potential of targeting RNA quadruplex structures to modulate gene translation. By using peptide nucleic acids as antisense oligonucleotide analogues, the project aims to silence specific genes, leveraging microbubbles for effective delivery in living organisms.
The regulatory functions of RNAs rely on their propensity to adopt defined secondary structures. G-rich nucleic acid sequences have a propensity to form highly stable four-stranded structures (termed quadruplexes) in the presence of physiological monovalent cations.
