This project investigates the role of specific receptors in retinal health, focusing on the mechanisms of retinal degeneration. It aims to understand how certain ligands influence the phagocytosis of photoreceptor cells, which could lead to new biomarkers for retinal diseases.
Macular and retinal degeneration are common blinding conditions which affect approximately 30% of individuals aged 75 years, and pose considerable socioeconomic burden.
