This project focuses on the role of the ATP-Binding Cassette Transporter Abcg2 in cardiac progenitor cells and its potential in cardiac regeneration after heart injury. The research aims to understand how this protein influences the creation of new heart muscle cells.
Cardiac muscle death, without equivalent cardiomyocyte replacement, results in severe deficiencies in cardiac pump function both after myocardial infarction and in those chronic cardiomyopathies where apoptosis is prevalent.
