This project focuses on developing methodologies and software algorithms for planning maintenance strategies for smart aircraft structures equipped with structural health monitoring systems. The aim is to optimize inspection and maintenance activities while ensuring safety and cost-effectiveness.
Smart structures, which incorporate structural health monitoring (SHM) systems into mechanical components to enable online damage detection, have a strong potential to reduce inspection and maintenance cost of aircraft structures, while simultaneously maintaining or increasing the level of safety.
