This project investigates how low-density lipoprotein accumulation in arteries relates to endothelial permeability and blood flow dynamics. It focuses on the role of sphingosine-1-phosphate in maintaining endothelial integrity under varying shear stress conditions, utilizing advanced imaging and modeling techniques.
Increased endothelial permeability allows accumulation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in the artery wall and may lead to atherosclerosis.
The spatial heterogeneity of atherosclerosis has been thought to implicate flow mediated effects in the development of the disease.
