SafePolyMed aims to enhance patient safety in polypharmacy and multimorbidity by developing a framework to assess and manage drug-drug-gene interactions. It utilizes machine learning and patient engagement tools to identify risks, educate patients, and support physicians in optimizing treatment regimens.
Polypharmacy, multimorbidity and genetic heterogeneity can affect drug efficacy, raise the risk for adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and increase healthcare costs. ADRs are among the leading causes of death in developed countries and a major cause of hospitalization.
