This project aims to improve oil and gas exploration near salt structures by using advanced computer simulations to reconstruct geological evolution and predict subsurface stress fields. This approach enhances safety and efficiency in drilling operations.
Many of the world’s oil and gas reservoirs occur in the vicinity of salt structures within sedimentary basins.
Because salt is a weak and low-density rock, it flows on geological timescales and forms kilometre-high structures that strongly deform nearby sedimentary layers.
