This project investigates how scientists interact with material tools and environments, challenging traditional views of cognition in scientific reasoning. It employs cognitive ethnography to explore the implications of these interactions for philosophy of science and education.
Historical and sociological studies show the importance of the material culture of science, including external representations, tools and instruments, and the physical layout of the laboratory.
