The SENTINEL project aims to enhance the body's innate immune response to HIV-1, potentially reducing chronic disease progression. It explores novel therapeutic targets and the role of specific gene polymorphisms in improving immune function in HIV-1 infected individuals.
HIV-1 is a major global health problem with over 2 million new infections every year, and although antiretroviral therapy is effective, chronic infected patients suffer from severe co-morbidities due to immune dysfunction.
With the proposed SENTINEL project, I aim to identify novel strategies to enhance innate antiviral immunity to HIV-1 to limit establishment and progression of chronic disease.
