This project investigates the evolution of sex determination in flowering plants, particularly in the Hawaiian genus Wikstroemia. It aims to uncover genomic changes associated with the transition from hermaphroditism to separate sexes using genomics and greenhouse experiments.
Life on earth has undergone several major evolutionary transitions, but perhaps none so striking or relevant to our daily lives as the origin of separate sexes.
