This project aims to advance fire safety engineering by developing simulation tools for assessing fire properties of building materials. It seeks to train researchers who can innovate and improve fire testing methodologies for the construction industry.
The current fire testing and classification systems based on prescriptive building codes have severe limitations, restricting innovation and cost-efficiency in companies supplying materials/components for buildings and in the construction sector in general.
This is creating a growing need for more flexible performance-based fire engineering, and calls for the development of appropriate methods/tools to support that change.
