The SIRENE project focuses on developing RNA-based therapies targeting microRNAs to combat cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure. By silencing specific microRNAs, the project aims to provide new treatment options for heart conditions, leveraging findings from animal models to enhance therapeutic efficacy.
Cardiac hypertrophy is the principal risk factor for the development of heart failure and lethal arrhythmias. A complex web of interconnected signalling pathways has been implicated in hypertrophy and species of non-coding RNA molecules, microRNAs, have been shown to regulate these pathways.
The recognition of microRNAs as potential therapeutic targets marks the principal step towards new therapeutic concepts.
