This project investigates the dual role of sleep in memory processing, focusing on how it consolidates important information while facilitating the forgetting of less relevant details. By studying both humans and rodents, it aims to uncover the neural mechanisms behind these processes.
Sleep supports the formation of long-term memory, a function described as an active systems consolidation process.
Concurrently, a long tradition of theorizing exists that sleep serves to forget unimportant memory.
