The SMartGut project aims to create innovative therapeutic microbeads that encapsulate probiotics to address functional gastrointestinal disorders. These microbeads will be designed to reduce inflammation and improve gut health by incorporating bioactive components that enhance probiotic effectiveness.
Functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) are a group of debilitating conditions affecting up to 40% of the global population, significantly impairing quality of life and driving up healthcare costs.
