This project aims to clarify the origins of Type Ia Supernovae by studying nearby supernova remnants and binary white dwarfs. It leverages existing astronomical data to improve understanding of these cosmic events and their implications for the universe.
Despite decades of intensive work, the identity of the progenitor systems of Type Ia Supernovae (Ia SNe) still remains obscure.
This might be the most important unsolved problem in stellar astrophysics, with profound implications for cosmology and the cycles of matter and energy in the Universe.
