This project focuses on developing a novel method for synthesizing diphenyl carbonate, a key component for polycarbonate, using solar energy. It aims to combine carbon dioxide reduction and phenol oxidation reactions over a new type of photocatalyst, potentially transforming CO2 into valuable chemicals.
Global CO2 emission dominated by burning fossil fuels is resulting in serious societal and environmental issues.
To reduce CO2 emission, it is ultimately needed to move away from the reliance on fossil fuels and develop new processes and technologies for CO2 capture and transformation to value-added chemical and products.
