The SPIDI project investigates the formation and evolution of inner planetary systems around young stars. It aims to develop models to understand star-disk-planet interactions and predict observational signatures of these systems.
With more than 2,000 confirmed exoplanets discovered to date, and about 4,000 additional candidates, it is now widely accepted that nearly every star in the Galaxy hosts a planetary system.
These systems greatly differs from our Solar System: a vast majority of exoplanets revolves at a distance less than the Earth’s orbit (1 astronomical unit, 1 AU), and many orbit very close to their parent star indeed (<0.1 AU).
