The project focuses on developing a high-brightness source of heralded single photons using four-wave mixing in an alkali-vapor within a hollow core photonic crystal fiber. This technology aims to enhance the efficiency of quantum optics applications, particularly in quantum computing.

For optical quantum computing the process is probabilistic and so the larger the number of photons the less time required for success.
