SPLENDID aims to develop a Personalised Guidance System to help children and young adults improve their eating and activity behaviors. By monitoring key parameters and providing real-time guidance, the project seeks to prevent obesity and eating disorders through targeted interventions in school settings.
The emergence of eating disorders and obesity as major health concerns increased research in these fields.
However, impressive advances in neurobiology, genetics and sociology of eating had minor clinical or sociological impact.
In obesity, pharmacological interventions have failed and while life-style interventions seem moderately successful, they are embedded in specific social contexts.
In the field of eating disorders traditional interventions have poor results and high levels of relapse.
