The project focuses on optimizing the production of biodegradable detergent enzymes through solid-state fermentation of food processing by-products. It aims to develop a fully automated system for producing these enzymes at an industrial scale using renewable resources.
The use of enzymes for laundry was introduced in the early part of the 1900s.
Since the latter part of the century, temperature stable bacterial enzymes (proteases, amylases, lipases and cellulases) are applied because of their stain removing activity.
This feasibility study is based on the excellent task results of the recently finalised KBBE cooperative research project TRANSBIO 289603 which being considered as ""success story"" within the EC.
