This project aims to develop new therapeutic approaches for retinal degenerations, particularly age-related macular degeneration. By utilizing embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells, the research seeks to restore vision through the transplantation of photoreceptor precursors.
Retinal degenerations leading to loss of photoreceptors are a major cause of untreatable blindness in the EU.
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) affects 1 in 10 people over 60 yrs.
