This project investigates genetic factors that contribute to resistance against obesity in a society that promotes weight gain. By focusing on individuals at the lower end of the body mass index spectrum, it aims to uncover genetic insights that could inform preventive and therapeutic strategies against obesity.
The rising prevalence of obesity and associated co-morbidities such as Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and certain cancers represents a major threat to public health in Europe and worldwide.
