The SUP&R project focuses on improving the sustainability of road and rail infrastructure by training engineers in eco-design and sustainability assessment methodologies. It aims to develop innovative solutions that maximize recycling and minimize environmental impacts during the design phase.
The design, construction, maintenance, use and end-of-life management of road pavements and railways is associated with a number of important impacts on the environment; namely the consequences of energy consumption, unsustainable use of materials/resources, waste generation and release of hazardous substances into the environment.
