The SYNAPTOME project aims to map the architecture of synapses on individual neurons in the mouse brain. By understanding the distribution and types of synapses, it seeks to uncover how these structures relate to brain function and their role in genetic disorders.
Synapses participate in all our thoughts and actions and are damaged in over 100 genetic brain disorders.
Synapses are the hallmark of brain complexity, being present in vast numbers and containing thousands of different proteins.
