This project investigates abrupt changes in marine ecosystems, known as regime shifts, to understand their timing and causes across different European seas. By analyzing these shifts, the project aims to inform strategies for marine ecosystem protection and enhance understanding of climate impacts on marine life.
Regime shifts are abrupt changes encompassing a multitude of physical properties and ecosystem variables, which lead to new regime conditions.
Regime shifts can cause large-scale losses of ecosystem services with severe consequences for human well-being.
