The TACOMO project reexamines the cultural role of cowgirls in shaping cowboy gender norms through performances in Wild West shows. It investigates the impact of these women on narratives of American womanhood and their influence on European audiences.
Cowboys are known all over the world.
They embody fantasies of mobility and adventure in the North American West to people around the globe.
And naturally, we imagine cowboys as white and male figures who roam the prairies.
