The TEJAM project focuses on discovering new antimicrobial, antioxidant, and antihypertensive compounds from endophytes, which are internal plant microbes. It aims to develop innovative methods for efficient drug discovery and enhance international collaboration in the field of bioactive compound research.
Antibacterial resistance is spreading globally at an alarming rate and continues to increase.
New potent antimicrobials are therefore continually needed.
In recent years, new antibacterial compounds have mainly been additions to the existing classes of drugs and truly new structures have rarely been developed.
The derivatives of existing drugs however raise bacterial resistance much faster than completely new compounds.
